Lots of ancient turns of phrase are still in use today, "resting in your laurels," being a good one. In that case "unemployed backup dancers" is just a turn of phrase.
ReplyDelete"Unemployed" could also be a negative modifier with forgotten origins applied to a future that 100% still has backup dancers.
Also, shoutout to Blogger for having the "sign out" button where every other platform has a "submit" button. That joke never gets old.
DeleteThere's good reason to excuse relatable dialogue. It does stand out though, and I assume it's a "crumple zone" in the writing rather than a deliberate world-building choice.
